Vorke Z6 Review | 3GB + 32GB Android 7.1.2 with Passive Cooling

By | September 21, 2017

I have always admired Vorke TV boxes. In this Vorke Z6 review, read how this latest TV box has effectively replaced the Vorke Z3 due to cooling issues.

The production of the Vorke Z3 was halted recently after receiving a lot of negative reviews. The box seemed to suffer from thermal throttling which affected the performance.

This latest Z6 box now comes with a passive cooling system designed to prevent overheating. The actual design and casing is exactly the same as the Tanix TX92 TV box which has almost the same specs.

Let's check out more.

Full Review for Vorke Z6 TV Box

OS: Android 7.1.2 Nougat

The Z6 comes pre-loaded with Kodi 17.4 and at the time of writing it is available for a special launch price of $69.99 on Geekbuying. You won't find this TV box on Amazon since boxes with Kodi installed are banned.

I don't really understand why they pre-load Kodi onto these boxes anyway. It's easy to install from the Google Play Store but I do understand some users may not know how to set up Kodi with Addons etc.

If you are a bit of a novice when it comes to Kodi I recommend installing a custom build. This will add featured addons and give you access to all the content you need. Check out my other article which explains how to install a Kodi build.

After receiving a lot of bad reviews for their previous box, it's good to see that they have addressed the over-heating problems and developed a better cooling system which has an onboard fan.

The actual price for this box is pretty good considering the impressive specs and I like the nice display on the front. It also has a power on/off button on the top and a new launcher has been added which is very snappy and works well.

Geekbuying deliver Worldwide and when you order you can choose which power adapter you prefer, depending on where you live. They also have some addon bundle options which you can select before ordering.

The new interface menu is pretty neat and you access apps from a rotating side menu, similar to some of the features I've seen on some Android phones.

It's quite simple to use and very responsive. I still recommend using a good wireless keyboard, you will soon get frustrated trying to use the I/R remote control.

This box plays all files including 4K and if you have a TV that is 4K compatible this box would be a good investment. There are no issues with any streaming in Kodi but that also depends on other external factors, it's not directly related to the box.

There are some things you can do to improve buffering issues in Kodi but hardware in general doesn't have a complete bearing on it.

    Using the Z6 with Kodi

If you are a Kodi user you probably know that it is under scrutiny right now, especially in the UK. There's a bit of a witch hunt by the authorities trying to get Kodi banned.

This is because some third party addons are providing links to live football and other sports that are subject to copyright. In the UK some of these streams are now being blocked by the ISPs who are now obliged to stop users from accessing these servers.

Using a good VPN will protect you against prosecution and it can also be used to access geo-restricted content. It's really easy using a VPN with Kodi and a lot of Kodi fans are now turning to VPNs.

I prefer to use Kodi for VOD only and I use my IPTV system that gives me access to Premium channels without being scrutinized or using my VPN. This service isn't available in the UK.

    Alternative TV Boxes

One alternative that has similar specs is the Beelink GT1 which is available with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. I personally own the GT1 and it performs extremely well with Kodi and my IPTV service.

The 3GB box is a bit more expensive compared to the Vorke Z6 and is priced at $89.99 on Geekbuying. There are other TV boxes that have similar specs. The H96 Pro+ is a decent box and has a similar price tag.

Another one with 3GB of RAM is the MECOOL BB2 Pro but this is a bit more expensive at $96. It does come with an externa antenna though which is good for improved wireless reception.

Vorke have made amends and the new Z6 is a good replacement for the old Z3 TV box. In my opinion it is well worth the price tag and you could do a lot worse.

This is great stuff for people who want to go live abroad and still get the good UK shows, I personally travel a lot and it’s annoying in the hotels when you can only get BBC world news.
