Now with Android 7.1 Nougat, read my SkyStream Two Review to find out if this new TV box can replace your cable TV with the cordcutting package option.
In my SkyStream One Review I gave the box 4.3 out of 5 stars. The first model was built around the old Amlogic S905 SoC and was powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop.
This new model, the SkyStream Two has been upgraded with the new Amlogic S912 and comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
With Gigabit Ethernet and Dual-Band WiFi it promises to be a worthy replacement but my first impressions are the price tag may be dragging it down.
Starting at $199.99 on Amazon it is a lot to pay for an Android TV box that isn't shipped with Premium channels. They do have their own Media Center App which would explain why Amazon are allowing this TV box to be advertised.
However, I fear the manufacturer is being rather economical with the truth. Their Media Center App looks very much like a customized version of Kodi.
They also offer a Cordcutting Package upgrade which includes a HDTV External Antenna and an Air Mouse with keyboard on the reverse side.
My Review of SkyStream Two TV Box
My first impressions of this new model are good. The major differences are the processor upgrade, operating system and memory.
If you are in the States that could mean almost 100 additional channels received from the HDTV external antenna. You will be able to watch Fox, CBS and ABC to name a few.
The box itself is a good performer and Kodi will run without any issues, but you can run add-ons in Kodi with lesser specs that this.
The 3GB of RAM and the new Mali-T820MP3 GPU will contribute to better video playback and gaming performance (if that's your bag). 4K files run with no issue inside Kodi but I'm still trying to understand why this box is so expensive.
SkyStream Two Specs
SkyStream Two Media Center App
The manufacturer of this TV box is adamant they don't use Kodi. However, if you check out their video below it looks very much like they do, doesn't it?
I've seen many customized versions of Kodi and this looks like another one, re-branded with a different name.
Amazon no longer allow media players to be shipped with Kodi and sellers can find themselves banned if they promote TV boxes with Kodi pre-installed.
Regardless, you can still install Kodi from the Play Store and use it with the SkyStream Two. Their Media Center App looks rather limited if you ask me.
I prefer to use the latest version of Kodi and I always use a custom build of my own choice. I am currently using Titanium but there are other good builds like No Limits Magic which installs a featured set of working add-ons.
SkyStream Two Cordcutting Package
The Cordcutting Package is available on the manufacturer's website and will set you back an additional $60. This would bring the total cost to $259.99.
Their package includes a backlit Air Mouse and a HDTV MoHu Leaf 50 external antenna. However, you can choose to buy the external antenna separately on Amazon.
The cost for the MoHu Leaf 50 is only $49.88 and has a 50 mile range, same as the one being offered by SkyStream.
You can check which local channels are available in your area via the MoHu website.
Pros and Cons
Streaming with Kodi or the Media Center
If you are using the SkyStream Media Center App you may find some of the links are using content that is subject to copyright. Other content may be geo-blocked.
If you are in the UK or USA some servers may be blocked. Internet providers are now working in conjunction with the authorities to provide your online history. More and more people are now streaming online with a VPN.
It's the only way to protect yourself and at the same time access content that you may not be able to if you are in a certain location. I have teamed up with PureVPN to offer you the best deal for 2018.
PureVPN are widely recognized as the leading VPN provider Worldwide and you will struggle to find a better deal elsewhere. This is a unique deal for UK TV Services Abroad.
The PureVPN app is easily installed from the Play Store and once connected you can run Kodi as normal. You can find a comparison with other VPN providers here.

Alternative Media Apps
Clearly, the only way to watch free TV is by streaming Kodi or Mobdro with a VPN. However, if you are prepared to pay a little for a higher quality service there are alternatives.
I use Kodi on an Android TV box similar to the SkyStream Two box. It's actually a Beelink GT1 with 2GB of RAM and also built around the S912 SoC.
It's a lot cheaper than the SkyStream and will set you back a mere $63. However, you will have to install and configure Kodi yourself and you won't get the same customer support that SkyStream offer.
Another alternative is a paid IPTV subscription. This is a real cordcutter in every sense. I no longer have cable TV after discovering my IPTV service.
This will give you better quality live streaming and also comes with VOD content so you can watch on-demand. They also have a 14 day catch up service so you will never miss another program.
Subscriptions start at only €16.95 per month and can be used on the SkyStream Two box. There is a 2 day free trial available.
