How much RAM is enough for TV? I always recommend 2GB minimum so does more RAM mean better streaming? This HPH TV Box Review will help you decide.
This TV box includes 1 x HDMI IN connection which is quite rare for a TV box. This will allow you to record video but of course you will need to connect a Webcam.
Whilst this box is not cheap, it looks promising with really good specs but I’m a little disappointed it doesn’t come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Android 5.1 leaves it near the cliff edge.

The 4GB of RAM is a welcome sight and together with the Rockchip RK3288 SoC it looks the business! However, I’m struggling to comprehend why the price is so high.
The box is almost identical to the UGOOS UT3S but without some features that the UGOOS has. But it does have the HDMI IN which is not very common in Android TV boxes.

This box was benchmarked on AnTuTu and returned a great score of almost 40,000. The 4GB of RAM ensures smooth performance for games and video playback was smooth with no flicker.
Kodi will run without any issues assuming you have at least 10Mb/s internet speed which is the minimum recommendation for Kodi. The 4GB of RAM will not improve your internet streaming speeds that much, contrary to popular opinion. It will help to run your applications faster which is a plus point.
Buffering can occur on top of the range boxes too, it’s related to different issues which may affect your streaming speeds. With this box being powered by Android 5.1 you can download the latest version of Kodi from the Play Store.
However, the this is the absolute minimum version of Android that will work with Kodi so please bear this in mind. Kodi is constantly being upgraded and we are now seeing Android TV boxes being shipped with Android 7.1.

HPH NT-V6 on Amazon
If you search for this Android TV box on Amazon nothing comes up in the searches which is a bit strange. However, if you follow my link below you can find it. I’m a bit unsure why it doesn’t show in the search results!
The box has an overall rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars from 17 customer reviews. Some of the issues with it are listed below:
- Some of the applications are still crashing even with 4GB of RAM. The Play Store didn’t function very well so it’s worth updating it on the box. If this happens open the YouTube app and you will be prompted to update Google Services. If this still doesn’t work try to sideload the Play Store by downloading the APK file and installing manually.
- The box wouldn’t “wake” from sleep mode. A factory reset will fix this.
- The remote that comes with the box is pretty average and you would be better off buying your own wireless keyboard.
The above issues are not what I would expect from a box priced at $189.99 and I have to admit being a little dismayed at some of the problems being faced with this box. Prices do fluctuate so it’s worth checking the latest price.
Alternatives to the HPH NT-V6 TV box
For the price of this box you could buy another one with similar or better specs and still have more than $100 left over. Let’s assume 1GB of RAM costs around $25. You could buy the Beelink GT1 Ultimate box for $71.99 which comes with 3GB of RAM and Android 7.1 OS.
This TV box has a better AnTuTu benchmark score than the Minix Neo U1 TV box and 3GB of RAM is more than enough to play games or run demanding apps.
Right now there is a Flash Sale on at Gearbest for the Beelink GT1 Ultimate box and it runs for another 5 days. If you don’t get it in time you could also opt for the Beelink GT1 with 2GB of RAM which is another great box, powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Live Streaming TV Alternatives to Kodi
There are several other apps that give you free media content like MobDro or Showcase but Kodi is by far the most popular and definitely more flexible. However, it’s very much in the public eye right now due to a bit of a witch hunt by the authorities against copyright infringement.
These other free apps are no different so I would always recommend using a good VPN to protect yourself in case you are not sure of which apps you can use. A VPN is very affordable these days and you can get some good bargains just now.
My favorite VPN provider is PureVPN and at only $2.95 / month it’s not worth taking any risks. If you are looking for Live TV channels without buffering why not check out my preferred method for viewing Live channels?
They offer a Free 3 day trial. You can check out my review below. It’s not free but starting at only €14.95 / month it can easily replace your cable TV subscription and there is no contract.
If you are determined to buy a TV box with 4GB of RAM then the HPH Smart TV Box could fit the bill. It’s a lot to pay for an Android TV box though so please check out alternatives before deciding.
