Goobang Doo Android Box T95X Android 6.0 | Is 1GB of RAM Enough?

By | July 22, 2017

This Goobang Doo Android Box is the T95X version with the S905X chipset and powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow. But can it operate with only 1GB of RAM?

My review will look at the Pros and Cons which should help you to decide if it’s a good buy or not. I will also show you the cheapest place to buy.

Goobang Doo were founded by Mark from Princeton and they have a multinational team of techies. They manufacture TV boxes, projectors, circuit boards and transmitters to name a few.

This box is faster than the old S905 SoC but you should definitely hard-wire it with Ethernet. The WiFi download speeds are not the best. You can get download speeds of around 85Mb/s with the LAN connection which is more than enough.

It will work well with Kodi but you should download the latest version from the Play Store. The older versions (below 17.2) are susceptible to hackers due to the recent faults they found with Subtitles in Kodi.

Due to the 1GB of RAM you won’t get great performance with demanding games. This is a 4K TV box and it supports H.265 video decoding so video playback won’t be an issue. However, not all files played on this box with some of them freezing.

The box returned a score of around 30,000 on AnTuTu benchmark which is not the best, but certainly not the worst I have seen. If you do buy it I would definitely recommend using a good wireless keyboard or air mouse. The remote control is a bit clunky.

Pros and Cons

The positives:

  • Android 6.0
  • Price

The negatives:

  • No Gigabit Ethernet
  • WiFi downloads speeds
  • No external antenna
  • Remote control

Goobang Doo T95X on Amazon

The box has a rating of 3.9 out of 5 stars from 232 Amazon customers which isn’t too bad. It isn’t available on Gearbest or Geekbuying so this is the best place to buy it.

Some of the customer comments are shown below. I have included good and bad comments.

“It’s relatively easy to use (especially with an Air Remote Mouse), you don’t need to connect your Google account to use it and installing apps is easily done…”

“If you want to get fancy, you’ll need a few accessories. However, if you are going to use it solely for multimedia, all of the important components are included…”

“UI is very slow, had a lot of issues opening just a single app without having to run the memory cleaner…”

“Installation was a breeze and it works great. The only problem being the power off. It doesn’t power off by itself. The only way is to walk up to the device and detach the power cord…”

Using the T95X with Kodi

Most people have heard of Kodi, it’s been in the news a lot recently. This is because the authorities are trying to clamp down on people using Kodi to access illegal content, especially live sporting events.

It’s very easy to install a basic version of Kodi but if you are a bit of a novice it can be quite daunting trying to get it set up how you want. This is where a custom Kodi Build comes in handy.

Automatic Configuration

A Kodi Build will install menus and add-ons to make Kodi user-friendly. It is quite easy to install your own Kodi Build and there is no charge, it’s free! The one I like to use is called Cosmic Saints.

Check out option #3 on my other article which provides full instructions for installing Cosmic Saints. Click here to read it.

So, is Kodi legal?

In a word, YES. However, Amazon no longer stock fully loaded Kodi boxes and Facebook have also banned Ads which promote them. Fully loaded means it has a pre-configured Kodi version on it.

However, if you access content that is subject to copyright, you could be prosecuted. A lot of countries now know what you are accessing online and they will know if you are watching illegal streams.

Use a VPN for peace of mind

If you are worried about accidentally clicking on illegal content you should protect yourself with a VPN. It’s very easy to install and use a VPN with Kodi. Normally a VPN will eat into around 10% of your bandwidth but in some cases it can improve your streaming speeds.

My favourite VPN provider is PureVPN and you can grab a bargain with them right now. They have a special promotion which will cost you only $2.95 / month. A small price to pay for peace of mind? My article explains how to set up and use it with Kodi.

Alternative TV boxes

This TV box is not the best but the good thing is there are plenty alternatives. One box I would recommend is the Beelink GT1 TV box which has great specs and a very good price too. You get a lot for your money.

Coincidentally, we are giving away a free Beelink GT1 this month in our Free Prize Draw. To enter our draw just sign up to our Newsletter and this will automatically enter you into our monthly draws. Next month (August) we are giving away a 2 year VPN subscription.

Wrap Up

I hope you found my review useful for this Goobang Doo box. I probably wouldn’t recommend this TV box because I know you can get a lot better. If you need any more information just drop me an email. My email address is on my Bio below.
