Best Box For Kodi In 2017 | These Front Runners May Shock You

By | October 16, 2017

Choosing the right TV box can be a bit of a minefield. You can find the best box for Kodi in 2017 right here with my top recommendations in Android boxes.

There's a lot of things to consider before selecting a TV box. You will probably have some sort of budget in mind too, so for that reason I will recommend boxes that represent value for money and also won't break the bank.

You should be looking at minimum specs too, before deciding on the best one. For example, I never recommend less than 2GB of RAM if you want to use Kodi.

As this year draws to a close, let me give you my favorite boxes of 2017 and you can be safe in the knowledge that any one of these will be a good investment.

You may wonder why I haven't included any of the Amazon devices like the Fire Stick or Fire TV. To be honest, I don't like how they are not fully compatible with other online app stores like Google Play so for that reason I have not included them.

You also won't find the NVIDIA Shield here because in my opinion it is has way too high specs (and price) for just using with Kodi.

These boxes are not in order of preference but you can find the best one that suits your budget or needs.

Tanix TX8 MAX

Best Features: 3GB of RAM, wireless download speeds, price, video playback

Price: $64.99

OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

SoC: Amlogic S912

The download speeds on this box are a standout and you can easily achieve 200Mb/s which is pretty awesome for a box with this low price. The performance with playback was excellent and you can get DTS passthrough with no issues.

The remote is slightly different to the more generic ones but if you really want a good UX with any of these android TV boxes I always recommend using a good air mouse or wireless keyboard for easier functionality.

This box comes pre-loaded with Kodi and Mobdro which is another free TV app that gives you access to live TV channels. It has a nice notification bar which allows you to easily switch between apps.

Beelink GT1

Best Features: AnTuTu results, wireless download speeds, price, solid build.

Price: $62.99

OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

SoC: Amlogic S912

I've included the GT1 because it's such a top performer for a small box. I love the feel of it and the remote control is better than a lot of these android boxes.

Strangely enough, it outperforms its big brother the Beelink Ultimate which has 3GB of RAM. For a tiny box with only 2GB of RAM it even has a higher AnTuTu score than the Minix Neo U1.

I've used it for running a STB emulator with IPTV and it handles it without breaking sweat. Great for multi-tasking too and the OTA updater means you can update the firmware easily.

It's no longer available on Amazon but you can purchase it on Geekbuying. My full review has links to Amazon but it is currently unavailable probably due to Kodi being pre-loaded.

Amazon no longer allow boxes that are fully loaded with Kodi so that could be why it's no longer stocked there.

Kukele B61

Best Features: Customer support, double external antenna, 3GB of RAM, video playback

Price: $145.99

OS: Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

SoC: Amlogic S912

The Kukele media player comes with 32GB of eMMC flash storage which some could argue is irrelevant for using with Kodi but you may wish to download some content from Kodi so I've included this TV box.

The box is as good as anything I've seen and their customer support team are very responsive. You can also find video tutorials on their website for things like connecting your network, watching PPV sports events, how to use Mobdro, how to watch NFL games.

It has everything you would expect in a TV box for Kodi to operate efficiently but you can get the same for less in my opinion. The double antenna will give you excellent WiFi reception so if that is an issue then this TV box could be the solution.

At the end of this article I will tell you the best way to get live TV channels which includes PPV, NFL games, etc. Being able to access these videos is still useful though.

Vorke Z6

Best Features: 3GB of RAM, Android 7.1.2, passive cooling system, price.

Price: $69.99

OS: Android 7.1.2 Nougat

SoC: Amlogic S912

I've always loved the Vorke TV boxes but they messed up with the Vorke Z3 on the RK3399 SoC. The box had overheating issues which affected the performance.

However, they have since replaced it with the Z6 and they are now back to using Amlogic S912 processors for this particular device.

The Z6 also comes with a new launcher interface which is very neat and snappy. The company are probably taking advantage of some Android 7 features here but it works well and is a step up from the generic interfaces.

This box is a solid performer and comes pre-loaded with Kodi 17.4 at the time of writing.

Live TV Channels on Kodi

As I mentioned earlier, I will share with you the best and easiest way to get live TV channels on Kodi. Once you do this simple installation you will have access to everything that you will ever need.

You will be able to watch PPV events, live premium channels and content that is restricted by location too. Following these steps will open up a whole new World of TV but this won't fully resolve any buffering issues.

Watching live TV on Kodi is never going to be 100% satisfying due to issues outwith our control. If you would like a better solution for live TV check out my IPTV review.

Step 1 - Add a Custom Kodi Build

A custom Kodi build is something that is installed using a particular program addon. Once you run the setup wizard, it will add a featured set of addons giving you access to everything imaginable.

It uses the repository for ARES Project and you can get full details for adding the Cosmic Saints build on my other article.

Step 2 - Install a VPN to access more content

A lot of content on Kodi is blocked by location. For example, you may not be able to access BBC channels if you are outside of the UK.

This is called geo-restrictions or geo-blocking. It's practiced by some providers and this also applies to content in other countries like USA.

If you use a good VPN with Kodi you can unlock ALL content and at the same time you won't be blocked by your ISP for accessing certain servers that they are obliged to block.

Wrap Up

Any of these TV boxes could be labeled as the best box for Kodi due to price or specs. Please feel free to leave any comments below or contact me if you have any questions.
